Add A Southwestern Feel To Your Decor

Have you ever watched television and saw a great southern style which you thought you couldn't pull off? You don't need to be from the south to pull off a great southern style home. It all depends in the accent choices which you choose. Most of the time you'll notice leather, silver, and of course cowboy type themed items in these types of rooms. You always can follow Native American styles as well since they are mostly southwestern designs.

Deep, strong colors on the walls are important for the Southwestern approach to home decor. Keep the walls solid and plain, adding some interest and design with Native American prints. Pillows and throws are some of the more popular items for adding that Native American touch in a room. They give that impression of a comfortable, inviting space without being too visually imposing.

Masculine upholstered furniture is another important factor for achieving the Southwestern theme. Get furniture pieces made of dark woods. Scratched, faded and worn furniture are a better addition to a Southwestern room because the distressed look better creates that impression of a look from the cowboys-and-Indians era. Make the room as rustic as possible, and you should be able to pull off the look quite well.

If you already have wooden flooring in your home it's a great plus. If you are able to stain this flooring try to go for a darker wood finish. If you aren't into the staining of the floor try great darker area rugs to place upon them. It will give that darker feel just by placing these upon the existing floor without having to touch them. Just make sure there are a touch of bright colors in the darker rug which you purchase for your flooring needs. It will make the rooms flow with style and warmth.

Native American themed dcor will be the best to choose for this type of style. Also brighter colors accented in the area rugs are a great idea. This room shouldn't look modern after you're done with it. Don't be scared to use something which maybe you wouldn't have before. This is a southern room and you want it to feel as if you just walked into the south.

While you have a lot of flexibility with regard to accessories for this theme, it's recommended that you get at least a couple of color-matched pieces for every major color in the walls, flooring and area rug. Aside from those, silver and wood are the best materials to use for accessory pieces because they break up the visuals of the room quite well without attracting too much attention by themselves.

No matter which style in the southern design you choose it should always feel inviting and homey. You want this room to be something which screams at people and lets them know you've taken quite some time in decorating this room and it shows.
