Adding The Right Mood To A Room

When you want to use a particular design or bring out a certain aesthetic in a room, the mood of the room can be a very big factor. It is a detail that has to be emphasized, as it defines just how well a room can pull off a look. It may not be as apparent to you if you see that room on a daily basis. The only way to test if you achieved the right mood is to invite guests and then observe how they react to your decor.

If your guests the room and instantly feel right at home, it's a sign that you were able to bring out the perfect ambiance. On the flip side, you likely weren't able to set the right mood if your guests remain stiff and ill at ease. Remember, you are trying to design a cozy living space, not some uncomfortable (albeit attractive) showroom.

Colors, furniture and decorations are elements that can set the mood. Creating the proper atmosphere depends on the usage or functionality of the room. For instance, the bedroom should have a relaxing atmosphere, the living room a welcoming feel and the kitchen a warm and cozy ambiance reminiscent of family quality time. The choice in these decorating elements can instantly uplift, enhance or weaken the mood. Depending too on the aura you want to convey, you can alter the decorating elements. Changing the color, rearranging the furniture, replacing the fabrics and either adding or eliminating objects are just some of the things you can do.

The decorations and furniture also contribute to the mood of a living space. If you're after a homely feel, furnishings made of wood can help you attain this ambiance. For a modern look, furnishings that are characteristically sleek are ideal. A formal atmosphere is emphasized by dark and heavy items as well as antique pieces.

Creating a mood or enhancing one is affected by the use of area rugs. Because rugs are eye-catchers, they can set the pace on how a room feels. The variety in colors and designs makes it easy as well to create a mood of your choice. Brightly-colored area rugs or those in big geometric patterns are mood-boosters if you want a cheery, full of life ambiance. Dark-colored rugs with lush fabric or intricate designs are winners for making a space have a formal and elegant feel.

Remember to set the right mood. You can't make the living room somber, the bedroom bursting with energy and the family room dull. Take into account the function of the rooms and you'll be guided as to how best to decorate them.
