Beautifying Your New Home While Sticking To A Budget

You've just bought a new house and decorating comes next. This can be a tedious task, especially if you're decorating for the first time. Hiring an interior designer to do the work is a tempting idea but not one suited to someone who's on a tight budget. Moreover, being hands-on in decorating your home sounds better than having someone else do it, don't you think? You can change your mind as often and be as meticulous as you want without annoying anyone...

Decorating is about implementing your style and taste. By choosing things that you like, decorating becomes a breeze. Decorating as a family makes it even more enjoyable.

The dimensions of each room like the living room, bedroom, the kitchen, etc. have to be measured along with their window space. Once that is in order, the next thing on the agenda would be to wall paper or paint the house. If it is newly constructed you should not have this problem but if you are the second owner then you might want to do it. Lighting is also important at this point. Only selected old furniture that is presentable and useful to you should be brought in, otherwise it would be better to discard it before entering the new home.

The living room is a major room in the house. Make sure that it looks welcoming and appealing. Curtains and area rugs add color; cushions and coverings meanwhile add design and texture. You can buy these items for less in discount stores.

Purchase quality beds for the bedrooms. Consider this an investment. Quality beds last longer and will save you the expenses of buying new ones soon. Choose the right size as bedrooms vary in floor area. Don't set aside storage compartments, especially if you have a lot of things and there's only a small closet. Invest in good cabinets or drawers for longer use.

Your children's rooms will vary according to each child's favorites. Common point however is to make these rooms - bedrooms and playroom - colorful, vibrant, comfortable and fun for your kids to hang out in. Needless to say, a safe room for your kids is essential. Have enough storage for the children's toys.

Make your kitchen more than just a cooking place. If space permits, have a dining set too albeit less formal than the one in the dining room. Storage is crucial too in the kitchen to prevent clutter. Don't be strictly straightforward in decorating your kitchen, especially if you intend to spend family time here. Make it inviting as well by using a warm color, an area rug to embellish the floor, curtain or window blinds and other decorations like flowers, photos and your family's message board on the wall.

The dining room should be attractive enough to be a party space too. Think of dinner parties, special occasions and family gatherings. Choose a dining set that can accommodate your family and add in some nice accessories like a pretty centerpiece and an area rug for the dining table set. Ensure that it's the right size to be able to cushion the chairs even when they're pulled back. You don't have to buy new decors. If you have a collection of silverware or china, then you can display those.

Finishing these main areas will make decorating the other rooms easier. The bathrooms, patio, entryway and hallways, basement and backyard should also be given attention so that you will have a house that looks pleasing in every corner.
