Bring Cleopatra Into Your Decor

Cleopatra, the great Egyptian queen is well known for many reasons; one of which was her creative use of rugs. Of course, we all know the story of how Cleopatra had herself wrapped in a large rug and delivered to Julius Caesar who was in town intent on taking over her country. She saved her country by forming an alliance with Caesar, later continued with Marc Anthony after the death of Julius Caesar. The rest as they say is history; all because of the creative use of one rug.

Unlike Cleopatra, most of us don't use our rugs to make new friends, at least not in the ways she approached it. We use our rugs to decorate our homes and to make our home warmer. Furthermore, we can simply go to a store or shop online when we want a new rug rather than poor Cleo who had to order hers about a year in advance.

Today rugs come in so many different shapes and sizes as well as color and material. You will need to find out what size rug you need for your room before you even begin to shop for one. You also need to figure out why you even want an area rug to begin with. Is it the fact that an area rug would make a great focal point to your room? Is it the fact that you can keep your floor warm while you look in style? There are several reasons why people buy area rugs.

Today you have access to rugs that can fit into any budget. You can shop online or in a store. This will help you find the most practical choice for you. So you don't have to just settle for a rug, get what you want.

If you are looking for a rug to focus attention on one area or particular furnishing, choose a small sized rug. If you have a room that you would like to see more coordinated and blended, use several small rugs of the same color scattered about to tie the room together. Conversely, if you have a room you would like to appear as divided into sections, rugs of differing colors placed around the room effectively "partition" a room. The same applies to whether to choose one large or several small rugs for a room. One large rug most definitely unites and blends a room as do several small rugs of similar color. To "divide" a room requires several small rugs of various colors.

You can't just throw the rugs down and call it a look. You want to make sure that you place the rugs properly in your room so you get the look you want.

It helps to plan ahead and use the right rug for your space.
