House M.D.’ Season 5 on DVD
The reviews are variable for Season 5 of House, M.D., which is now out on DVD. Whether they enjoyed Season 5 or not, viewers of the program concur that it was different. For instance, Cameron and Chase were not featured as often, and some fans felt that the season was more melodramatic than earlier seasons.
Viewers that enjoyed Season 5 say that the season connects with the viewers better than in earlier seasons, and that the fan learns more about how House's is haunted by his mental demons. The general sentiment is that if Hugh Laurie is in the series it will continue to be a complex, smart television program. Even doctors who watch House, M.D. say that despite its sometimes overblown presentation, the program is very affecting and does give the fans an idea of the difficulties a doctor experiences when trying to make a challenging diagnosis.
Those who were rather disappointed by House M.D. Season 5 complain that the writing varies in quality: the season begins strongly, goes through some boring episodes in the middle, then picks up steam during the remainder of the season. An element that did not appeal to many watchers was what they saw as a blatant and clumsy way of planting the seeds of a P.I. spinoff series by introducing a character that was not essential to the story line. Other complaints were that the character arcs were less enthralling and that uneven writing caused House's trademark biting humor to cross the line into unnecessary shock value at times.
The 24 shows making up Season 5 allow non-work and professional boundaries to shift repeatedly among the main characters. Guest appearances in Season 5 include eljko Ivanek, Mos Def, and Carl Reiner. The DVD collection has extras covering adjustments to Dr. Cuddy's life, how an episode is cast, and the level of accuracy in the writing. The DVD set also contains a 100th episode celebration, and commentary for the episode about the patient with the "locked-in syndrome."
Between those watchers who really liked Season 5 and those who were less satisfied, the vast majority say they still enjoy the show a lot and are breathlessly awaiting House, M.D., Season 6.
