home decorating
Are you the type consumer that always has a little bit of difficulty to make up your mind when it comes to a purchasing decision? Perhaps you are putting off redecorating your child's room due to your inability to select a particular paint color. It is not easy to make a decision and it can be tough because you are not sure you will be happy with the end result when it is all finished. Additionally, you may not have experienced with the steps involved with wallpaper, stencils, or other additional processes. Because of this you may be stuck in the proverbial doldrums because risking disappointment is not a position you want to be in.
Or perhaps you are a consumer who redecorates a home constantly. No sooner than you finished painting and rearranging a room and move on to the next job even if you have already redecorated the same room last year. It might be because you have grown tired of the theme and opt to try some new with the room. Nothing remains the same for very long at your home and your family members can never get used to the various new looks of the room that you devise.
It hardly matters if you are the finicky type who is unable to make up your mind and present a commitment. It also does not make much of a difference if you are a fickle decorator that opts to change her mind from week after week. The best answer to this dilemma can be found in wall clings since they often yield the perfect decorating solution. Wall clings can be quite simple to place on a wall and are also easy to remove as well. Afterwards, if the arrangement is not what you wanted, you can always change things around. It matters not if the change is immediate since you can make any alterations whenever you opt to do so.
You can use wall clings to decorate a baby's room and quickly and easily change the decor when your child becomes a toddler, a preschooler, and then goes on to elementary school. By the time your child reaches puberty, you may have redesigned the decor with window clings a dozen times, but it won't matter. You'll still have stylish decor with minimal effort and expense because redesigning the room won't require repainting or hanging new wallpaper unless you want it to.
And when your child gets to the age where he or she wants to have input on your decorating choices, you can let him or her help without fear of disaster. Your son or daughter can help pick out the designs and even help put them on the walls, furniture, woodworking, doors, window frames, or any other solid surface your child wants to decorate.
Yes, decorating these days is far simpler with the introduction of wall clings in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and designs. They're a great way to stay on the cutting edge, keep up with current trends, and modernize with the least amount of exertion. Give them a try in your child's room and see if you aren't quickly sold on the benefits of wall cling decor.

Cleopatra, the great Egyptian queen is well known for many reasons; one of which was her creative use of rugs. Of course, we all know the story of how Cleopatra had herself wrapped in a large rug and delivered to Julius Caesar who was in town intent on taking over her country. She saved her country by forming an alliance with Caesar, later continued with Marc Anthony after the death of Julius Caesar. The rest as they say is history; all because of the creative use of one rug.
Unlike Cleopatra, most of us don't use our rugs to make new friends, at least not in the ways she approached it. We use our rugs to decorate our homes and to make our home warmer. Furthermore, we can simply go to a store or shop online when we want a new rug rather than poor Cleo who had to order hers about a year in advance.
Today rugs come in so many different shapes and sizes as well as color and material. You will need to find out what size rug you need for your room before you even begin to shop for one. You also need to figure out why you even want an area rug to begin with. Is it the fact that an area rug would make a great focal point to your room? Is it the fact that you can keep your floor warm while you look in style? There are several reasons why people buy area rugs.
Today you have access to rugs that can fit into any budget. You can shop online or in a store. This will help you find the most practical choice for you. So you don't have to just settle for a rug, get what you want.
If you are looking for a rug to focus attention on one area or particular furnishing, choose a small sized rug. If you have a room that you would like to see more coordinated and blended, use several small rugs of the same color scattered about to tie the room together. Conversely, if you have a room you would like to appear as divided into sections, rugs of differing colors placed around the room effectively "partition" a room. The same applies to whether to choose one large or several small rugs for a room. One large rug most definitely unites and blends a room as do several small rugs of similar color. To "divide" a room requires several small rugs of various colors.
You can't just throw the rugs down and call it a look. You want to make sure that you place the rugs properly in your room so you get the look you want.
It helps to plan ahead and use the right rug for your space.

Many people might think that casual decor is one that has no theme or organization. Nothing could be further from the truth!
You can tell casual decor by the simplicity, the texture in the fabrics, soft upholstery and the asymmetrical pattern that is magnificantly accented. Soft curves or rectangles seem to be the elements of this style. But you can find the focal point in this decor is comfort. You can use casual decor to easily blend in with other themes like French Country, Shabby Chic or cottage, or even American.
Start from the floor up in fashioning a casual decor. Flooring suitable for casual style includes hardwood, stained concrete, tile, or stone. Use sisal, berber or other Transitional style area rugs as focal points. Don't use anything too plush.
Furniture should be oversized, soft and comfortable, often using slipcovers. Neutral colors such as beige, gray, tan or off-white predominate in casual style. However, other colors such as pastels or jewel tones such as cranberry, navy, olive green or rust can be used for more excitement in the style.
Casual decor favors textured fabrics for upholstered furniture and pillows and natural fibers such as wool, cotton and linen. There are also new synthetic weaves available that provide durability without sacrificing a natural appearance.
This is the perfect look to add wicker or rattan to. You can find some original furniture at a flea market or antique shop. Finish the furniture look with a large ottoman that can also be used as a coffee table or even a large tray.
Try to use a large area rug for your focal point in the casual decor look. Don't arrange the furniture in a formal way; instead let it go however you think it looks best. Remember no sharp edges and no matched pieces. Compliment the look, don't perfect it.
If you are using wood in casual decor try choosing oak or pine. These two woods can be used for furniture or flooring. You can give them a coat of varnish, flat luster, or even paint them. When you are ready to accessorize with the door hardware, use wrought iron, hammered iron, antique brass, porcelain, or carved wood.
Window treatments echo the uncluttered, whimsical touches. Start with blinds or shades topped with valances. Use non-traditional wood or iron as drapery hardware, such as old pipes or tree branches as curtain rods. Tiebacks for drapery panels can be long nails or notched twigs; anything similar to enhance the casual feeling.
The casual look can be found in the texture and material of your curtain rods and light fixtures. You can also use a pan rack or a set of antlers for a chandelier.
Add a collection you have to your casual decor. Collections can include pillows, books, hatboxes, luggage, or even birdhouses. If you collect area rugs you can hang them on the wall for art work.
The keys to creating a Casual style that's warm and hospitable for family and friends should be comfortable, homey, and sturdy, with soft, textured fabrics, overstuffed long furniture, rugged surfaces, rustic accessories and that whimsical touch.

The first thing a visitor to your home will see is the entryway. You want the entry way to be the welcome center for your home; it should be warm and inviting and is your chance to make a good first impression. The greatest tool you have in creating a welcoming atmosphere is the decor you choose for the entryway.
What is the mood that you want to create in this entryway? Do you want it to be charming, lived in, or even tranquil?
Whether your entry way is small or large you can make use of all the space to welcome your guests. Even the smallest entry way will have room for a wonderful wicker or cast iron coat and hat stand. If you have a larger entryway, a hall tree storage bench made of rich hardwood is a great place for the family to hang their coat, sit down and take off their muddy over boots. On the way out they can easily lift the storage bench lid to find dry gloves.
If you want to create a tranquil setting to your guests when they arrive, you may want to place an indoor fountain in the entryway. This can sooth your guests and make them feel calm as well.
Even though oft ignored, lighting has a very important role in the decor of your entryway. If you desire a soothing, warm atmosphere for your entryway, employ lighting that complements the look rather than detracting from it. For a calm mood, indirect soft lighting works wonders. Displaying artwork requires lighting appropriate to showing it off, perhaps wall sconces or mini-sconce lights. If the entryway is large with a high ceiling, a chandelier would be in order. You may combine ceiling and wall lighting to achieve any mood; don't feel you are restricted to one lighting style.
You can set the mood immediately when your guests step into the room. Highlight the entryway with a natural look of marble, granite, or onyx.
Rugs are the last thing your entryway needs to make it look perfect. It doesn't matter what look you are going for; modern, traditional, or quaint you can find a look that is right for you and can be complete by adding an area rug. Rugs can help protect your flooring as well as keep the floors warm.
You want to make the best first impression so to do this you need the right lighting, the best decor, and a beautiful area rug. It's amazing how that one moment can mean so much.

When we think of the Southwest most of us think of desert, cactus and wide open space. When we decorate for Southwestern flavor, it is the colors of the Southwest that become important. The colors of nature abound in the Southwest. Blending into nature's palette are the colors and design associated with the Native Americans indigenous to this area.
Make sure before all is purchased for the decor that you are aware of what color scheme to go with. Many choose a neutral wall if they aren't into painting their walls bright colors. If you do this you'll need to accent with the popular southwest colors such as oranges, reds, yellows, and greens. Adding this color palette to your living room design will make it feel as if it came right from a designer.
If you are sort of scared of color and want to stay more neutral with just a hint of color then go ahead and paint your walls an off white or at least a light tan. Bring the color scheme in with the pillows on the furniture, window treatments, and even picture frames. Mix a few neutral pillows in with the mix and you'll create a great scheme of color.
If your walls are painted in bright colors, your couch and chairs should be of more subdued, perhaps even neutral tones to break up the cacophony of color. In this situation wood is a very good choice to complement the bright colors; dark woods are especially good for setting a Southwest scene. For accent pieces, ivory and turquoise is perfect with bright colors.
Native American decor is one way to really make the rooms style stand out. Many decide to purchase a wonderful woven area rug and place it on the wall as a focal point rather than on the floor where it could potentially become dirty. Carved wood pieces are another great idea to tie into your theme.
The area rug can be the last or the first item to place in the room. If you already have a theme and you have to search for a rug afterwards you'll at least know what themed colors you're looking for. If you need a bit of help in the beginning, try starting with a wonderful area rug. This will give you the kick start into a great design.
Always remember the southwest style is supposed to feel laid back and you need to enjoy yourself after your hard work is complete.

Have you always wondered if you have the sense for style? Did you ever want to be a home decorator? Well here's your chance!
As you know money is always tight, especially now, but don't put those dreams on the back burner. There are many ways you can work on a budget and still get the room looking wonderful.
Going green is one thing everyone is trying to do somehow in their lifestyle. You either can take smaller steps or you can try designing a room eco friendly. It is quite simple since many manufacturers are creating their pieces eco friendly.
If you have a smaller room and you feel as if hanging stuff on the walls will make it seem smaller, there is a trick. Try hanging a great mirror onto the wall. By doing so you'll create the illusion of a larger room. You'll notice that it will reflect pieces and make it seem much larger!
It is very inexpensive to decorate using plants. If you enjoy a modern peaceful environment, bring nature into your living room with plants. Select plants that complement your decor to create a harmonious atmosphere. You don't have to invest in planters for the plants; use one of your favorite bowls or an old copper kettle you no longer use.
If you are a person who does not fear all tools and manual labor, one of the best methods of beer budget decorating is to Do It Yourself. Your home will be the beneficiary of an instant update when you change the fabric on even one important decorative furnishing. Someone with sewing skills can quite easily turn out decorative pillows and matching curtains in an afternoon to give a room a totally different look. For inexpensive fabric sources, use bed sheets or make a trip to a sale table at the local fabric store. A little time and a little imagination will reward you with a room to be proud of.
Area rugs are always a great decor effect in any room. They will make it more cozy and welcoming to many whom enter. If you have wooden floors these are great art ideas for your floor which you really don't have any other way to decorate the floors as you know.
The key to working on a budget is trying to do stuff yourself. Sometimes you'll need another hand but that is what friends are for!

Decorating your child's room can be a fun activity especially if you allow them to help. Allow your child to help you pick a theme for their room. Additionally you may want to take your child to the store with you and allow them to help select various items for their room. Remember that their tastes may be very different from yours and will continue to change. You may want to select several pieces and let them choose between these options. This will help the room look more complete and help prevent buyer's remorse later.
This is especially important when choosing color. If you let your child select the colors you may end up with some strange combinations. Rather than setting your child loose in front of the paint chips, go to the store by your self. Pick up several color combinations that both you as well as your child will appreciate. Typically you can find chips that include entire color schemes. This is a good route to go because the colors are guaranteed to look as good together on the wall as they do on paper. Since you know you approve of these selections give them the choice of which is used. This will let your child have a sense of control without destroying the room.
Bedding will be your next selection. If they aren't quite into a theme and would rather choose a color bed set you'll be glad to know they are mostly available under $50.00 in your local store. You can even purchase a few throw pillows just to add a punch.
If you aren't looking to purchase more decor to add in your child's room, try using some of their toys. Yes, if you purchase hooks and place them around the room you're able to put toys among them such as dress up for little girls or even a bag with balls in for your little boy! Shelving is another option to consider. It will be storage as well as decor for your child's room! No need to purchase more than what they already have available.
There are a few reasons why area rugs are great in children's rooms. They give them a softer feel while they play on the floor, save the carpet or flooring underneath it a few extra lives, and also if something is spilled on the area rug, toss it in the wash and you're set to go. Just make sure that whatever type of area rug you choose it is durable and washable.
It is quite simple to design your child's room with their help. They'll never have to know that you had the first options before they got to choose! Shhh it's a secret!

Modern day area rugs come in all shapes, colors, materials and sizes. When you decide to use a rug in an area the first step is to determine how large a rug you will need. You also need to realistically assess how much foot traffic the rug will subjected to so that you can make a good choice of fabric for your rug. Decide what the real purpose of the rug is; will it be a decorative focal point, only for utility purposes or a combination of both? What style of rugs would complement the room where they will be used? What about the light in the area, is it a light area or a dark one? Once you have answered these questions, you are ready to shop.

The way you organize your kitchen can make a difference in whether it looks spiffy and all done up or just downright messy. The decor in your kitchen can help define its general mood and
When decorating your kitchen many don't ever think of placing area rugs in their kitchen. We wonder why you hardly see this in any design other than the living room and hallways. Area rugs will brighten up a room's decor along with making it cozier when you're in the environment.
First and foremost, rugs of this kind should be washable. Spills are some of the everyday disasters that take place in kitchens and it wouldn't do at all if you had a beautiful rug that has a stain that will never, ever come off. Thankfully, most kitchen area rugs today are machine-washable, which levels that threat down to a minimum. But don't put them in the dryer! Hang them up in the clothesline because they're usually fragile and don't respond well to all that banging around inside.
Also try to look for one that matches your kitchen's theme well. Braided rugs and Oriental rugs add greatly to the kitchen's atmosphere. Use a brightly-colored rug for that dull-looking kitchen to brighten things up. Or use patterned ones for those kitchens with more discernible themes such as country and Western. Whatever your taste and style, just remember that it's a choice that will pay off in the long run -or at least until you choose to redecorate your kitchen.
You might ask why you'd ever put an area rug into the kitchen. Well there are a few reasons. Some will think it is crazy because if a spill occurs you'll have to wash it immediately before it stains. If it was the floor you could just wipe it up and be done. The plus for area rugs in the kitchen is to give you comfort underneath your feet if you spend quite awhile in your kitchen preparing food. It will also take the weight off of your back somewhat.
Make sure the area rug of your choice is comfortable to the touch, washable, and matches the theme. You'll wonder why you didn't think of placing one in the kitchen before!

Have you ever had a vision of your living room looking like it just stepped out of the southwestern side? Well look no further. Here is a great way to bring the southwest feel into your home without having it look too awkward.
If you aren't afraid of color and don't mind painting your wall an orange or yellow then you'll want to choose your furniture wisely. You'll want more neutral pieces with a few bright colored pillows. You don't want to overwhelm the design with a horrid palette. Always remember that dark wood furniture and other pieces in the room are a great design when choosing this style.
Your accent pieces should be as near to authentic Southwestern as possible. Many of the Southwest's Native Americans weave beautiful rugs and wall hangings and artisans create wonderful carvings and works of art that look beautiful in rooms with a Southwestern theme. Look for many authentic Indian works to include in your new living room.
Whether you choose the room rugs first and design the room around the rug, or design the room and choose rugs to complete the aura of the room, look for Southwestern rugs handmade by Native Americans. You will be able to find all sizes of rugs from small to large. Native American rugs are works of art; they may tell a story or depict history or maybe they will include Kokopelli, horses, buffalo and other images of importance in their lives. Your Southwestern decor will simply not be complete without a Native American handmade woolen rug.
Always remember the southwest style is supposed to feel laid back and you need to enjoy yourself after your hard work is complete.
