Renovating or remodeling your home can be quite an expensive pastime, even if you are only planning to do some repainting. However, if you decide to remodel an entire living space or even utilize an empty room to produce something from square one your project can seriously burn a hole in your pocket. One important thing you should do in this case is to stick to a tight budget and assign a set amount for every step of the project.

There are so many ideas for basement remodeling on a limited budget. For one, you should start with the important stuff before going on to, for instance, deciding on the type of decorative lighting you wish to incorporate into your basement. Waterproof your basement first and foremost, as dampness and other water problems is really a main issue in most basements.

Clean out and get rid of the junk and moldy items inside your basement once your basement has been waterproofed. Jot down and draw out every idea you have on paper. If you have a clearer picture of what you want to do with your basement, the less likely you are going to spend on useless materials and equipment.

Lighting is another area where you can improve your basement without having to spend for so much. When working on basement lighting, make sure you also utilize natural lighting. This means using the sunlight or other sources of lighting from the outside of your home to brighten up your dark basement. You do not have to spend on natural lighting, so you would want to take advantage as much of it as possible by using larger windows or glass blocks, French doors and mirrors to reflect more light.

You can save on lighting by doing away with incandescent lighting. Although it radiates a warm, soft light it is not very efficient. Fluorescent tubing is much more economical, however, it does not produce a glow that is as attractive. Thus, the key here is to combine lighting while keeping in mind how they are going to be used. Are you mainly going to read in the basement? Do you really need bright lighting if youre going to use the basement mainly for entertainment purposes?

For the ceiling, you can install a suspended one. With a suspended ceiling, you have better access to wiring and other parts of the area where you can easily install things like lighting fixtures and detectors. Suspended ceilings can also hide stains and cracks. In the long term, suspended ceilings are more economical, since they are more practical and allow you to easily make adjustments without the added costs.

Save money with flooring by installing the new floor by yourself. There are now products that are made of more affordable materials that can even imitate other materials that are otherwise more expensive, such as hardwood and granite. There are also products that are especially designed for do-it-yourself-ers where tiles have an adhesive side so they can be instantly installed.

You may want to go for secondhand furniture to save even more. This way you wont also have to worry about getting them damaged or replacing them if ever sudden flooding occurs. As you can see there are several ideas for basement remodeling on a budget. You do not have to spend a fortune to achieve the finished basement of your dreams.
