Great Breakfast Nook Curtains for Your Kitchen

Studies show that people thrive off sunlight and so it is natural to want to be exposed to as much natural light as possible to start your day. Since most people eat their morning meal in their breakfast nook, this room is usually equipped with many windows on as many as three sides of the room. The fourth wall is actually open to your kitchen in most cases. You do want that natural light, but you don't want to have to suffer with direct sunlight in your eyes or with too much glare, so most homeowners add curtains to their breakfast nook.

If you are interested in a more traditional look, you will most likely install sheer curtains. Sheers are usually made of any open weave sheer fabric such as cotton, nylon or silk. The sheer curtains will allow the sunlight to enter the room under softer conditions while eliminating uncomfortable glare or direct sunlight.

Curtains are nice for the times of day when the sun is a nuisance, but you need to think about a way to pull them aside during the rest of the day. You can make a simple side pull by attaching a small piece of fabric to the curtain. This fabric can tie the pulled drapery and then be hook to the side of the window with an eyehook. Another option is just to let the sheer curtains hang at the side of the windows when not in use.

Honeycomb or cellular shades offer another option for keeping out the glaring sunlight in the morning and evening hours. This style of shade is made from a lightweight non-woven polyester fabric and allows light to filter through so you can still enjoy the benefits of natural light. Even more important to some is the insulating ability of these shades. They will help keep cool or hot air from leaving your house.

When the cellular shades are not in use, they rise to the top of the windows and take up very little room. The small storage space is possible because of the way the honeycomb shades fold together. This window treatment allows for a much more streamlined look than billowy curtains.

No matter what window covering you choose, you will probably want to dress up the choice with a valence or cornice. A valence or cornice hides any hardware at the top of the window from sight and can make a decorative statement in the room. Since the breakfast nook is usually off the kitchen, all of the decorative lines will most likely be straight and square like cabinets and appliances. A curved valence or cornice could add character to the room.

Whatever choice you make when it comes to your breakfast nook curtains, their presence will add to the appeal and value of your home. If you are looking to sell one day, including the window treatments in the price of the home can make a prospective buyer feel like they are getting more for their money as well as the peace of mind that comes with knowing part of the decorating is already done.

The installation of breakfast nook curtains could be one of the most important decorating projects in your home because they serve a useful purpose as well as provide aesthetic relief. Since the project is so important, I would recommend hiring a professional to measure, order and install the window treatments. Measuring mistakes are very easy to make and it will cost you less if the professional instead of yourself makes the mistake.

One common solution is to install shear curtains. These drapes are usually made of nylon, silk, cotton, or any open weave sheer fabric. This type of window covering will allow natural light to get through, but will cut down on harsh sunlight or glare.

If you do not want to use curtains then shades offer another option. My recommendation would be to use honeycomb or cellular shades because they are made from a lightweight non-woven polyester fabric that has great light filtering ability. In addition to filtering light, an added bonus to using cellular shades is that they provide a certain amount of insulation, which can be important in a room full of windows.

Another reason for using honeycomb shades is that they provide a very streamlined look. When they are not in use, they fold in on themselves so that they take up very little room at the top of the window. You will get maximum use of your window when the honeycomb shade is pulled up.

The honeycomb shades or the hardware from either type of window treatment can be hidden from view by a valence or cornice. These decorating touches can add character to any breakfast nook with a touch of color or by adding curved lines to what you can assume will be a very boxy look from your kitchen that is full of square cabinets and appliances.

Once you install a window treatment for your breakfast nook, you will automatically add value to your home and increase your chances of resale in the future. Including curtains, valences, etc in the purchase price of your home will give added benefit to any prospective buyer and make the home feel livable right away.

Great Looking Breakfast Nook Window Treatments

Studies show that people thrive off sunlight and so it is natural to want to be exposed to as much natural light as possible to start your day. One common solution is to install shear curtains. These drapes are usually made of nylon, silk, cotton, or any open weave sheer fabric. This type of window covering will allow natural light to get through, but will cut down on harsh sunlight or glare.

If you use curtains then it is nice to install a side pull to store the curtains when not in use. This can be something as simple as a piece of fabric that wraps around the gathered curtain and then attached to the wall with an eyehook. If you do not have a side pull system then your curtains will hang limply at the sides of the windows and you will miss a fantastic decorating opportunity.

Another option for covering your breakfast nook windows is shades. I think the best option is honeycomb or cellular shades. This variety of window treatment has light filtering ability, because it is made of lightweight non-woven polyester fabric. Honeycomb blinds also provide some insulation, which is a plus in a room full of windows where heat or cook air can escape easily.

When the cellular shades are not in use, they rise to the top of the windows and take up very little room. The small storage space is possible because of the way the honeycomb shades fold together. This window treatment allows for a much more streamlined look than billowy curtains.

Most decorating touches in your home serve only an aesthetic purpose, but breakfast nook curtains also are quite useful. That is why it is important to do the job right. If you choose to install the curtains yourself, make sure that you measure carefully because it is very easy to make mistakes. Because of this, I would hire somebody to measure, order and install the window treatments for you so that if there is an error, it will be fixed on their dime.

Cheap Kitchen Curtains Won’t Burden Your Wallet

Home decorating is major investment that requires a lot of resources. Fortunately there are some aspects of home decoration that don't require much money at all. A good example would be kitchen curtains.

Curtains for the kitchen simply don't cost that much. This is especially true if you do your thorough research. The kitchen curtain pole would probably be your biggest cost and should cost you less than seven dollars.

Decorating a kitchen is not like decorating a living room. You don't need that much decorating to make an instant impact, appearance wise. Hanging up a curtain will certainly suffice.

They will not only make your kitchen look better, they will also give you pleasure every time you enter the kitchen. They make a bland kitchen look that much better.

Speaking of character, the plethora of patterns and styles will give you something that is just right for you. Perhaps you fancy country life if so, then country kitchen curtains will appease your taste.

Maybe you want something colorful or a fabric that has fruits imprinted on it. If that's the case then look into fabrics that have grapes, apples or even cherries on them.

Whatever you prefer, there will certainly be more than enough choices for you to choose from. The economy has been struggling lately but buying kitchen curtains money wise, should not be a burden.

Researching carefully will help you avoid paying more than what you should. Discounts are always available but research is the key, as you don't want to buy a curtain with awful fabric.

Avoid getting something that is too dull. Try something different when buying a cheap curtain. A bland color will be just as boring in a month or so after buying it.

That's my opinion anyway. Personally, I love Gingham kitchen curtains, I have always loved plaid and that's exactly what Gingham is. It is a checkered or plaid fabric.

If you like something fancy, then research toile designs, I'm sure you'll find something fancy enough. Whatever you decide, don't burden or stress yourself over it.

Think of it as a twenty dollar investment and take it from there. Who knows maybe you'll be like me and get a new kitchen curtain every 6 months or so. I do this because I like to circulate my kitchen curtains.

The hotter months, I put up the lighter fabrics and during the Fall I hang up my harvest fabrics. Winter months call for my heaviest fabric as it helps insulate the kitchen.

Whatever you decide, just make sure that you research carefully but most of all, have fun. Buying kitchen curtains should not be a stressful ordeal and you'll avoid the stress if you go for inexpensive ones.

A Simple Guide To Buying Kitchen Curtains

Your kitchen window has been bare for long enough. It is time for you to buy that long neglected kitchen curtain that your kitchen desperately needs. The good news is, it shouldn't cost you too much.

Most curtains for the kitchen cost much less than living room and dining room curtains. The fabrics and material are a whole lot cheaper.

Tons of online sites offer deals on cheap kitchen curtains all the time. Visiting these sites and reading the details is a great to start.

As with anything else you purchase you should exercise caution. Falling prey to overly aggressive sale advertisements is the most common mistake. Taking your time is the way you should go about it because sales are available today and they'll be there tomorrow as well.

I assure you that more sales and offers will be forthcoming because the demand for kitchen curtains is relatively stable.

Read what others have to say about the kitchen curtains you are interested in, read their positive and negative feedback. If some reviewers are disgruntled then find out why.

You'll be faced with many styles and names, so of which you never heard of. Gingham kitchen curtains are originally 100% cotton and have a checkered or plaid pattern. You can find this same style in a cotton and synthetic blend as well.

Is privacy a concern for you? If it's not then a valance, which only covers the top portion of the window might be something that you might like.

Sheer kitchen curtains are the complete opposites because the literally cover the entire window. Those in need of total privacy might want to take a close look at this design.

Perhaps you live in a house and like your curtains to have a family oriented style. If so then country kitchen curtains might be what you're looking for. These curtains almost always look better in houses than a condominium or city apartment.

The choice is yours and your research of kitchen curtains will expand your knowledge of the many styles and fabrics that are out there. Ultimately you should pick something that you appreciate, because after all you'll be the one in that kitchen most of the time.
