311 Music – A Music Review

0
by Steve Stevenson

311 is a band that had their fair share of ups and downs. When they started in the music scene, they have already experienced some troubles with regards to the band's members and were even on the verge of destitution. But through it all, the band has remained dedicated to their music.

Each one of their albums are by-products of their extensive touring of the United States and other countries as well. They worked hard to promote their songs which ranged from alternative to rap to funk to heavy metal.

Music, their first album was released in 1993. Despite being released more than ten years ago, the album still attracts attention from music fans. The single Do You Right received good airplay. It reached the number 27 spot on the Billboard Modern Rock Charts. But despite this, the album failed to sell as much as it should be.

For most people, a successful song or album is based on how well they do in the sales department or if they constant chart-toppers. Sometimes, it doesn't even have to reach gold or platinum status or receive recognition from different award-giving bodies.

Success of a song or record is relative. It doesn't have to always be at the top of the charts to be truly considered successful. Personally, it doesn't matter if a record rules the airwaves or not, it's the quality of the songs. A perfect example is 311's Music.

With this record, the band compiled all of their LPs. Some of the songs included in the album are Do You Right, Feels So Good, and Fat Chance. These three tracks have been widely popular because of their amazing quality. The album as a whole is a very good listening experience. These are also constantly played during the band's shows.

When you listen to the album, you will notice a mix of relaxing tunes and upbeat, loud songs, the kind that will make you want to get up and groove to the music. The album's songs clearly don't disappoint. The band was able to successfully mix different tunes that will appeal even to non-rock fans. Nick Hexum, Tim Mahoney, Chad Sexton, and SA Martinez were great in their respective roles. Their combined efforts gave way to the birth of a very great-sounding record that will surely appeal to all fans and music lovers.

In summary, a record doesn't have to rule the airwaves or sell millions of copies to be considered successful. As long as your songs have great quality and people love hearing it, you can call it a success. Just like 311's Music, such things don't matter. It is a great record, something you can play for months in your CD player. There is nothing else to say.

311 Shows Promise With the Release of Music

0
by Steve Stevenson

Despite going through some tough times before they entered the music scene, 311 has managed to keep their heads focused on creating good music. Despite having troubles with their band line up and their struggle against poverty, they were able to see through and come out with great music.

All of their eight albums ranged from alternative to rap to funk to reggae to heavy metal. The success of their albums can be highly attributed to their extensive touring all over the US and other countries to promote their songs.

The band released their first album in 1993. Even though Music was released more than a decade ago, it still commands attention because of its quality. It's single Do You Right got decent airplay and even reached the 27th spot on the Billboard Modern Rock Charts, though it did not propel the album to sell as much as it should.

This is where one can be confused with identifying a successful song, or album for that matter. Usually, we only say a song or record is successful when it is topping the charts and selling like pancakes. When an album reaches a gold or platinum status, then it is considered a success, or when the record brings nods and recognition from different award giving bodies.

What you need to know is that a record's success is relative. A song doesn't have to rule the charts before it can be considered successful. Personally, the success of a record is dependent on how good the songs are. 311's Music is an example.

In this album, 311 compiled all their earlier LPs. Songs like Do You Right, Feels So Good, and Fat Chance, because of their great quality, have all been popular. These songs are widely played in the band's shows.

You can go for months with nothing on your CD players but Music. 311 was able to come out with a great sounding record and managed to captivate their hardcore fans. This just goes to show that you don't really have to be the hottest thing in the industry right now. All you need is a team of talented musicians to come up with a great-sounding record.

Taylor Swift’s Love Story – A Music Review Creates an Anthem For Young Love With Love Story

0
by Stevie Clark

For a young singer/songwriter, Taylor Swift has managed to do an outstanding feat in the music scene. She was able to establish a big name for herself in such a short time. Now, this young girl is not only a country superstar, she also managed to bad an Album of the Year award at the Academy of Country Music, something her older colleagues would've died to get.

When she broke out in the music scene, Taylor Swift immediately showed great potential to be a certified hit maker. Due also to the fact that she writes her songs and she plays the guitar well, she was able to sell herself a true-blue country music artist. This she proved once again when she made a big hit out of the first single of her second album Love Story.

Love Story is from the Fearless album. It talks about a young forbidden love. In it, the girl (obviously Taylor since she tells her story through her songs) is struggling to be with her Romeo which her daddy doesn't approve of. She sings about going somewhere they can be alone; where she will be the princess and he, the prince.

Juliet tells how she met Romeo for the first time and fell in love with him. Because her daddy doesn't want her to be with Romeo, she sneaks out to the garden to meet with Romeo.

The forbidden love was too much to bear for Juliet because people were telling her how she should feel. But despite all that, she remains hopeful and faithful to their love for each other. But as every deep feelings are meant to end up, Juliet started to lose faith in the love because she got tired of waiting for Romeo.

Using the characters of the classic Shakespearian play Romeo and Juliet was a wise move for the singer/songwriter. This made the song more appealing to the audience because they will be able to understand the song better. Who doesn't know the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet? Alluding the characters of this classic added more appeal to the story of the song. It adds to the aesthetic value of the song.

However, it doesn't matter if you relate to the message of the song clearly or not. This is one of the case where you take a song in its entireity. It's undeniable, the song sounds great. Good writing combined with great melody and interpretation.

Love Story is one great song. It was written and interpreted very well. Good writing combined with great music and excellent interpretation. Nothing else needs to be said. Taylor Swift creates a love anthem with this one.

Britney Spears Solidifies Her Comeback With Womanizer Single

0
by Shane Bascome

Listeners can only have two reactions to Britney Spears' Womanizer single. You can either love or hate it. And for this writer, the reaction is definitely not the latter.

For years, fans have missed the kind of music only Britney Spears can give. And with the release of Blackout the album, the pop superstar announced to the world that she is back after a couple of tumultuous years. Her comeback was made official by a lackluster (and oftentimes lambasted) performance at the MTV VMAs where she did not appear to be in her element.

Blackout turned out to be her most unsuccessful album in her career. She then released a track from her upcoming album called Womanizer which seemed to have redeemed her from the mess she made at the MTV Awards. The track contained everything that is Britney Spears: funky, interesting, and catchy. It will make you dance and groove. You will experience last-song-syndrome after listening to it.

Fans will be able to connect to the song easily. The words, penned by Nikesha Briscoe and Rapheal Akinyemi, were relatable. It tells the story of a womanizer who's trying to score but he's been found out and the girl is not giving him a chance to even reach first base. A lot of young girls will connect to this one. The chorus cannot be any catchier: Womanizer, woman-womanizer You're a womanizer Oh womanizer, Oh you're a womanizer baby You, you, you are You, you, you are Womanizer, womanizer, womanizer.

The composers of the song have infused the new trend in pop songs: futuristic sounds and electro-punk feel. It definitely added to the appeal of the song. But it would seem more suitable if the song is devoid of this and concentrated on sticking to the bubblegum pop genre, which is what Britney Spears is famous for.

The record still sounds great nevertheless. One can't deny that this is a hit--a Britney hit. She has her signature all over the record:The lyric, phrasing, the distinctive vocals and tempo.

And even though a music artist should strive for new and better songs, Britney seemed to have taken a couple of steps back with the way this track sounded (she has had earlier songs that showed signs of a more mature artist like the Madonna collaboration). However, it was a good decision to go back to basics. With Womanizer she was able to solidify her position in the pop scene.

Womanizer is a great song. Nothing much can be said, really. If you expect a great song from Britney Spears for her upcoming album, then this one really raised the bar.
