Choose the Right Type of Coffee Table for Your Room

0

Coffee tables are often over looked accessories to rooms but they shouldn't be. These pieces of furniture are incredibly important to establishing an overall theme for any room they can be found in. There are a ton of different types of coffee tables out there to choose from and if you're in the market for one you should try and figure out what type matches your personality. The better coffee table you have the better your room is going to be.

People build some amazing things. I've seen homes with interactive light coffee tables that turn on and off an LED light panel display anytime you move your hand over the coffee table. Someone I know built a coffee table out of an engine block with his friend for his man cave garage dcor. Coffee tables can be unique and they can be awesome. Choose the right one and you will complement your space perfectly.

Glass coffee tables are everywhere these days and they are surprisingly easy to build on your own. A glass coffee table will provide your home with a refined and clean look and they are incredibly easy to clean. You can build one for yourself pretty easily too. All you need is a solid foundation and a pane of glass. Stick the glass on top with some washers and you're all set to go!

If you're interested in a rustic or antique look for your room you should look into buying or making a wooden coffee table. Wood furniture goes well with everything and it comes in all different shapes, sizes, and color schemes. You might be able to find some nice wood coffee tables with storage bins built into them or check your local antique shop for an old refinished wood coffee table. You never know, maybe one day some guy on antique's road show will tell you that something you picked up for twenty bucks is actually worth five thousand!

More of a practical person are you? You're telling me you don't really care about the style and you're more about what you can do with it? You probably have a raggedy old Lazy Boy recliner in your living room that feels great but looks awful, don't you? Well, you should check out the lift top coffee table designs. They don't look bad but they have a really cool top that lifts up and can be moved around to get closer to you on the chair or on the sofa. These coffee tables take TV dinners to a whole new level.

The coffee table goes a long way in defining what the room is going to look and feel like. Try your best to choose the type of coffee table that is right for you and the rest of your home but also have some fun with it. Furniture can be fun if you do it the right way, it doesn't have to be just for holding stuff.

If you're looking for simple and elegant try going with a glass coffee table. You can find some ornate and some fancy ones out there but you can't go wrong with the basic glass top with four legs and a base design. The famous Nintendo Game Controller coffee table is actually a custom fitted glass coffee table with a storage bin inside of it.

Wood is always luxurious for furniture and wooden coffee tables are no different in the miniature table world. Pick up an antique wooden coffee table from your local antique store and go nuts watching Antiques Road Show. Who knows? Maybe you'll find some 17th century coffee table that is worth millions of dollars and you won't ever have to think of buying a coffee table again. Or you might just stub your toe and put a chip in the leg. Either way.

One of the coolest modern coffee table designs has got to be the lift-top coffee table. The top of this table literally lifts up off of the table onto a pair of legs and hinges and you can pull it close to you on the couch. This table is perfect for game nights and lazy dinners in front of the television. Underneath the lift-top you'll also find a huge storage bin that is great for holding your old DVDs and other random junk.

The coffee table is the centerpiece of a room and you depending on what type you choose you will be able to gauge what kind of furniture you have to buy to complete the room's look. If you're staring at an empty room and you're not sure what to fill it with, stick a coffee table right in the middle and go from there.

Choose a Coffee Table That Matches Your Personality

Have you ever heard of a Lift Top coffee table? How about a pinball machine coffee table? Have you ever seen a glass table in someone's living room and said: Wow, I really wish I had something like that in my house. Well, you're right. You should have something like that in your house because a coffee table is a really great piece of furniture to have. There is a ton of variety to choose from when trying to decorate your living room; the ones I mentioned above are just a light sampling of table types.

There are tons of types of coffee tables out there to choose from these days but some of them get truly unique. I've seen coffee tables made to look (and action function like) Nintendo game controller, car engines, pinball machines, and anything else you can think of! I own a lobster trap coffee table myself and it is really a great centerpiece. If you want to add a really personalized quality to your room consider getting a unique coffee table.

A refined and dignified look will be achieved by placing a glass coffee table in the room. Glass coffee tables range in price from super cheap to holy crap expensive but they are also fairly easy to come by. These glass coffee tables just need a little bit of Windex to clean and they are good to go for another day so that's always a plus. If you're interested in building one yourself just find a solid base like a statue of an elephant or something and slap a pane of glass on top of it.

Wood is always luxurious for furniture and wooden coffee tables are no different in the miniature table world. Pick up an antique wooden coffee table from your local antique store and go nuts watching Antiques Road Show. Who knows? Whether its practicality you're looking for or just plain decoration a coffee table is a perfect furniture accessory to a room. If you feel like you have too much empty space and not enough beverage holders in your living room or den, throw down a coffee table and everything will be solved. You can't go wrong with any type of coffee table so long as you feel like it fits with the overall theme of the room you have it in.

If you're looking for simple and elegant try going with a glass coffee table. Buying Furnishings Online — Rules To Buy By

0
by Maria B. Spicer

While shopping via the internet is an easy, practical means of saving time and money, not to mention eluding the traffic, it isn't appropriate for every type of item we normally buy. Clothes shopping online only works if you're a perfect size 8, and some items, like chocolate and ice cream, simply aren't going to last the trip. Furniture may seem like another tricky online buy, but in reality, buying furniture on the web can be simple and trouble-free.

If you keep a set of rules in mind as you shop, buying tables and chairs, accent pieces, or even bedroom sets over the Web can be a fantastic way to maximize selection and minimize cost. Here are the things you need to think about when choosing furniture online:

1. Images -- Does the web store you're shopping at have high resolution product images for you to view? A 1"X2" fuzzy blur is not going to allow you to make an informed purchase decision, and any store owner who can't come up with useful images probably doesn't know his product very well.

2. Materials -- Those high-res photos can be very enticing, but be sure to read the fine print with regard to what each product is made of. For example, is it solid wood, particle board, veneer? Consider your intended use of the item and match that to a suitable material. A solid mahogany coffee table might look attractive, but will you be afraid to ever set a cup of coffee on it? Maybe a shiny coated surface would be more practical.

3. Sizing -- Item size can be very difficult to gauge from an online photo. Always check the product's weight and dimensions to ensure that you really understand what you're getting. What might look like a floor-to-ceiling curio cabinet may really be a desktop pencil-holder. If it helps you visualize, get some cardboard boxes and stack them up to the length, height, and width described on the page, so you can visualize how this item will fit in your space.

4. Delivery -- What exactly will be arriving and when will it ship? Does the item come pre-assembled, or will you have to put some parts together? If it's a large, heavy item, will the shipper be leaving it on your porch, or carry it inside? If the former, make sure you will be notified of the exact date of arrival, so you can be prepared (with help, if necessary) to bring the item indoors. If the latter, make sure you or someone else will be home that day to let the delivery person into your house.

5. Tax and Shipping Charges -- For large purchases, sales tax and shipping charges are a big consideration. Make sure you take the store's tax and shipping policies into account when shopping for these high-ticket items, as they could easily double the price. Many vendors pad shipping prices to make up for bargain product prices, while others compensate for higher product prices with low- or no-cost shipping deals.

6. Return Policies -- When buying a $10 item online, we scarcely need to concern ourselves with the return policy, but when purchasing a pair of $300 end tables with a $100 shipping fee, it's best to find out up front what the options are if the deal doesn't work out. What is the policy if the item is defective? What if you just don't like it? Make sure you know how long you have to complain or change your mind; whether the clock starts ticking at purchase, upon shipping, or upon delivery; who pays for returns in each situation; and if there are any re-stocking fees (common for high-end items).

There are no right or wrong answers here. Just be an informed consumer. If you know in advance what you're getting into, there won't be any surprises down the road, and you won't be disappointed in your shopping experience.
